Alaska Sunday XXV

.

Homer Alaska

A short break from the trip log. I have not had time to post lately due to prior commitments, and have not had time to compile milages and locations.

Here are a few photos from the stay at Homer, AK. They have a great RV Park on the spit which juts out into the bay. Before we drove down here to stay a few days, I had checked the tide tables to make sure we would have some exposed tidal flats for exploration. It worked out great. The only problem was the wind while we were there. It was fierce. The trailer jumped up and down all night. As typical, on the day that we left, the wind calmed and the sun came out. Oh well, we had a great time anyway.

Be sure to click on the photos for a better look, especially the Starfish

Entering Homer
Great,great,great food here.

The Spit
That's a town at the end and several RV Parks (expensive)

We are in the second row
The first row was $20.00 more per night. I used the extra $60 I saved,
to help with the purchase of a nice Inuit Basket

Tidal Flat exposed
The bottom was firm gravel and rocks,
so we could walk all the way to the drop-off.

Martha found a nice Starfish
Zillions of Mussels, Crabs, Starfish, etc.
Our backs were really tired from the bending over.

Notice Martha's red hands from fishing around in that really frigid water.

Comments appreciated.
Have you been here before? Are you planning to go?

Loving being a part of your travels ... I would have opted for the lower price view to get a fabulous souvenir

Gorgeous photos as always. I too am living vicariously through your blog. Years ago my husband's brother lived in Alaska and we had talked about going up to visit together but never did. Doesn't look like we ever will now. Keep posting the photos for all us stuck back home!

Thanks

Excellent! While Sarah makes you wish never to go to Alaska - your images do the opposite! ;)
Good job!

I only ever visited tide pools once in my life. I was pretty young back then. This blog entry makes me ache to experience that again. It's so magical! Thanks for the reminder! I haven't thought of it in years.

Troy: Neat photos of Alaska, digging in cold water must be hard on you. That is great that Martha would like to hold the Starfish. My wife would of said forget it.

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog, and for inviting me to come over for a look...glad I did. Wow, that starfish looks so....strange! Yet fascinating....

I have always wanted to explore tidal flats....one never knows what one will find...all sorts of interesting creatures, and sea objects...

I have never been that far north. Alaska seems like...."next stop, North Pole!"

Hello and thanks for stopping by my site. I may have been here before for a Skywatch; I remember the header. No, I haven't been here, but my in-laws might have. When dad retired, they spent 10 or 15 years travelling around the country in their RV. Beautiful scenery here.

That is the most beautiful starfish I have ever seen! I did not know they came in that color. I just saw a similiar one on DiXymiss' blog with that shade.

Yes I've been there a couple of times. I love Kachemak Bay and the glaciers. We camped right on the beach, flew kits, ate snow crab. I have a picture of myself standing by the Homer sign. Your pictures are spectacular.
