A Sunday Drive to Hagerman
A Sunday Drive to Hagerman
Yesterday was a nice day for a drive in the country and we decided to go up to Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. The temperature was about 75 degrees and the birding, from inside the car, was pretty good despite a 30 - 40 mph wind.
Hagerman is located on the Texas side of Lake Texoma, which is the The Texas - Oklahoma border. We had not been up there since the Geese returned. There were several thousand geese, mostly Snow Geese (including the Blue goose), some Ross's Geese, a few Greater White-fronted Geese, and a very few Canadian Geese. We saw 33 species of birds in all. Most of the sparrows and small grass birds were down out of the wind (can't say I blame them).

Look at all those geese! I wonder if some are from my part of Ontario. ;-)
Great post and photo's!!
Wonderful! Walking on water tops my list! :)
Cheers, Klaus
Oh that's the perfect birding spot. More geese please.
See you next week.
I love all your photos Troy and Martha! For I always enlarge the photos by clicking on them. In January a friend of mine and I go goose and duck watching on a bus tour. Which is wonderful. We'll see of course a lot of other birds too.
Troy: What a neat shot of the birds. I like the Coots all taking off.
Impossible to pick a favourite: they're fantastic photos!
As beautiful as that early-morning moon photo is, I think you chose wisely in ordering the breakfast.
;-)
It sounds like a great day out!
Thanks for sharing this nice shots with us. I love the last photo.

Such a very bright and beautiful, lively place!
Really love these photos, and those geese, wow walking the waters.
Where did all those geese come from! As always great info and pretty images especially the blue with the moon.
To have seasonal access to all those wonderful birds must be heaven! Great shots from both of you. I have never seen a snow goose in person but wouldn't I just love to.
My favorite photo is the Coots walking on water, a great capture.
Mind you, the geese are good too! Even the Moon through the looks good.
Nice! I've only seen a large flock of snow geese once, and never so many coots at one time. What a great outing.
Look at all those geese!! Great photos!
Dear Troy and Martha,
Thank you for sharing your wonderful day with us. You made great photos and my favourite is the last one! :-)
Cheers,
Troy and Martha, I love the sublte colors in all of these photos, the changing hues in sky and water, the greens, blues and golds of geese in grass. I have yet to see a greater white-fronted goose. This looks like a wonderful place to me. BTW, did your package finally arrive?
I love all you photo..you know that. Your world is beautiful and much warmer than mine..Maybe you could send a bit of that heat our way?? thanks for sharing
I was just out in the Big Thicket this summer. Texas is one big state ... and very diverse. I couldn't believe that Beaumont got 60 inches of rain per year. Who would have thought in Texas.
Great shots but I think my favorite is that last one. Awesome!
:-)
It looks like the geese have arrived! Nice photos, one and all.
Wow that is a lot of geese, very pretty
All 3 are beautiful images, however the first one is just gorgeous colors and stunning composition...Thomas
Geese return. Beautiful your World.
Great shot and subject.
Awesome post... the Coots shot is fantastic. Those birds are quite skittish, at least around here. I can't get near them without them going absolutely insane!
Take care!
