High Island

.

One of our favorite places in Texas.

We go here several times each spring for:
Wildflowers,
Beachcombing,
Bird migration.

This is one of the premier spots in the Nation for migrating Warblers, It is not uncommon to see 20 to 25 species of warblers in a day during April. We also like to run the 50 mile beach with our Toyota 4Runner. 4WD in most places. We like to park there facing the Ocean and watch the shore birds go by and occassionaly see a migrant bird come in across the Gulf from Central America.

I think the last one of the sea shells is my favorite. It reminds me of this summer when we took our two year granddaughter to the beach for the first time. Her favorite thing was collecting the sea shells.

The shells pic is definitely my favorite of the three. It brings to mind happy beach days for me, as well.

What a place. 50 miles of beach? All those shells? Paradise.

Fabulous place. Lovely :-)

Very beautiful! But driving on a beach? Probably not the best thing to do - even if it is allowed.
Cheers, Klaus

All the photos are beautiful but especially the one woth the shells is perfect!!!

I collected shells for many years, and the photos of the endless beach and myriad shells bring to mind those happy times. Why, then, is the honeybee my favorite photo? Because of it's beautiful composition and precise photography, I guess.

BTW I agree completely with your sentiments re word verification!

I like all your photos, but the first one is my favourite. I can hear the sea and smell the salty air.

I felt myself drawn into the first photo - I could almost smell the salt air, feel the sea breeze as I dug my bare toes in the sand, and hear the birds. I also love the other two as well. Have a heavenly week. :D

They are all wonderful photos but my favorite is of the bee. No, wait a minute it's the shells. No, the bees. . . . .no the shells.

Must I choose?

Fine photos.
Are you the famous Captain Troy of my childhood ?
By the way, I've bought a flat in a lovely French town named Troyes ( the pronunciation is not far from your first name);
You may see some pics on

I liked the last two best but I think I especially like the shells. I could spen all day looking for them. I found the tiniest ones in Hawaii. My best friend couldn't see how I could spend most of the day squatting to collect them. Drove her nuts. She would have been bored after the 1st day.

All of these are beautiful photos. I love the honey bee and the way the shells seem to be crawling across the sand.

I love the bee but I think my favourite has to be nature's gift. It is the caption you gave it that did it for me.
Great post.

Well I liked the first one, but a difficult choice as they are all lovely and oh so familiar in their subject. Sorry I am so late...but your skywatch picture is awesome. Love the thistles and they would be a great subject for a card idea...may I use it please? Please e-mail me, and I will send you a copy.

Thanks so much.

They honeybee shot is definitely my favorite.

I was surprised to find this entry this morning. Here I sit the morning after Ike desperately waiting to hear some real news out of Galveston. I've never been there. I have no family there. But so many people stayed. I fear the human toll.
