Troubled Waters

SkyWatch Friday

Don't you hate it when you are trying to photograph a reflection of reeds against the sky,
and a big Alligator swims by and disturbs the water.

(Click on the photo to get a better view of troubled waters and a rippled sky)

Rippled Reflection

Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge

The new SkyWatch site is here.
Thank you Tom

For some great Alligator photos visit Klaus at Virtua Gallery.

Yeah, that happens to me all the time. I like the name of the wildlife refuge. Anahuac figures briefly in a poem by Paolo Neruda that I enjoy.

Great phot although I am not a fan of the 'gator. We met one at Choke Canyon Lake in South Texas that was longer than our 21 1/2' boat!

Yep! I just *hate* that! Happens every time! LOL!

Bummer! Don't they have any decency?
Only thing you can do, put a pinch of salt on his tail and it won't happen again.
@Brandi - love your imagination!
And thanks Troy for the honorable mention! :)
Cheers, Klaus

Your caption is hilarious! Wow. Now that's a bummer we don't have in MT. Great post.

Yeah, Troy, that happens to me all the time and it's a real pain. Seems like those gators would have more respect for us photographers. (It's a real jolt to your system when a gator intrudes into a macro.)

I think I'd make a quick retreat if I ever got that close to a 'gator in the wild...   I've never seen one in the wild though, and that's just fine with me...   I am such a wimp that I'm not a big fan of snakes either...

The other day I was buying a whole chicken at Safeway and I told the checkout clerk that I was going alligator fishing... He looked at me like I was some sort of nut...

I just love the humour here.. :O)

Lots of gators there. I think Winnie, Texas is the gator capitol of Texas isn't it. Good shot. Pappy

Yeah, that drives me crazy! I'm pretty sure I've never seen an alligator in the wild. If I have, it was when I was very young.

It's a nice picture anyway!

the alligator just makes this image even more unique. its truly great!

Great reflection with the sky in reverse!! Well done!

Well you just be careful out there - no falling in the water!

Gets me every time! They're all hams, those alligators. But he did not spoil your shot! (We just won't tell him or he'll only do it again.)

If it happened here in Michigan, I'd be glad I had the picture to prove I wasn't hallucinating

This is something you never want to see while taking pictures or anything else. Glad your safe. Great post

Wow, Troy! Thanks for your great comments on my blog. I take a lot of pride in my posts, and do a lot of research. It's a passion of mine, so it's nice to get positive feedback like what you offered. Thank you.

Love your gator shot. I love all reflection shots... Cool with the alligator though.

Gerald (SK14) said...

now that is something I have never had a problem with - never seen a live alligator in my life - saw a crocodile in a mini-zoo a couple of days ago though.

Ha! I'd thank my lucky stars if an alligator came into my shot like that! Fabulous...

Brrr, scary creature. The photo is great though!

Yeh, just my luck, I probably be fly fishing those reeds in by nice cozy little belly boat and a big ole Alligator swims by and not only disturbs the water but scares all the fish away! =)

Yes, my photo of sky watch is in BC... in fact all my photos are from BC... I reside in British Columbia for over 40 years! I live now in the Eastern Kootenays along the Alberta Rockies after moving from the interior.

I am glad I don't have to deal with alligators around here! I would probably not go fishing if I did!

Yes I know the problem !!! Wouldn't it be hysterical if the aligator had a camera too you made.

Jules said...

I think it adds a certain texture to the shot!!!!

Wouldn't you laugh if he surfaced with a camera complaining of the ripples you were leaving!!!!

Great shot, Nature and alligator.
Good taken.

Hi Troy and/or Martha -- to the person posting today. You did really good. Alligators are hard to photograph around here, they do like turtles and get into the water. Except for the zoo ones, they just lay around waiting for the paparazzi.
Your picture brought back memories, in one of my other lives I ran out of gas on my motorcycle down there. Do you remember where the closest gas station was?

I hope you get all the Skywatch bloggers this week, that is a big task!
..
BTW, we live north of Houston in Montgomery County.

Troy, great post!!

Years ago, I was scuba diving in the Suawannee River in Florida looking for dinosaur bones where the river cut into the banks. I came face to face with a large gator....I don't know who scared who more...but both of us swam as fast as we could in opposite directions....

Man, those gators, don't they learn manners when they are being raised?

Cheers,

Scotty
