It was hot this day, 100+ °F. in the shade.
I was on a Nature Hike at the Ft. Worth nature Center & Refuge with Michelle Villafranca. We were in the "Prairie Barrens" area and I was interested in studying the plant communities on the 'barrens' a little more closely. This photo is near the edge of a barrens area approaching some glades.
This photo is an example of a statement that I have said in previous posts. When you take a photo, try to remember not only what it looked like, but the weather, what birds you were hearing (titmice, or other sounds), time of day, what smells were in the air (dry hot grass in this instance), any breezes stirring the air, anything unusual about the geology, etc.. It will enhance the pleasure of viewing the photo later.
Note the characteristic color of 'Little Bluestem' on the left.
Google 'prairie barrens' for more information.

Troy
.
Gosh, Troy. That actually looks hot. Stay cool.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful landscape, I have always loved that shade of ochery Naples yellow of the grass, so nice against the dark green trees.
ReplyDeleteBeing from Dallas originally -- it definitely looks hot to me! Great shot! And, yes, stay cool!
ReplyDeleteHappy SWF!
Sylvia
It looked barren indeed - and I can feel the heat.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteHappy SWF!
Looks a bit like Florida, temps are right, too. Though I reckon a little less humid than over here.
ReplyDeleteAnd I know exactly the feel when seeing certain images, one took.
Lovely photo, great ideas.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful landscape Troy, but it looks really hot - stay cool!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Anna
Beautiful shot, and yes, I can feel the heat.
ReplyDeleteJanice.
What a beatiful and strange coloured sky. I'm more used to the grey coloured ones.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of noticing whats around when taking a photo.
xo
It does look like hot from the photo. But lovely place to visit.
ReplyDeleteInteresting habitat. Nice shot!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am usually a mountain person, this is very apealing.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting and beautiful. The heat is one thing about Texas that I don't miss.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a beautiful place to walk. I love the yellow colored grass and blue sky.
ReplyDeleteInteresting colours suggesting heat - and like you, I try and recall as many relevant details about my surroundings to tell the story of an image.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I do feel the warmth... I so hate the heat, I am NOT a summer person in no way at all!
ReplyDeleteWe did go through a difficult heat spell but cooler air has finally come upon us in the last 3 days.
I am ecstatic!
This is wonderful, love the narration as well. I will try to remember that.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting me as well!
Great landscape photo! But I do not know if I can stand the heat! We better stay cool!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a hot day. I know I could not deal with TX heat.
ReplyDeleteTroy,
ReplyDeleteI love nature hikes and do know what it is to feel that heat!
Thanks for those tips of what to remember when shooting a picture.
Nice shot & nice view.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous blue sky! Thanks for sharing. Stay 'cool' ... ;--)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
An enlargement really gave me a view of so much flora and I did listen for the birds. Thanks for sharing your view.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post and photograph. It's been hot here too but not quite that hot.
ReplyDeleteLots of interesting things to see in your photo. Gorgeous landscape!
ReplyDeleteWell done, it is a lovely view thank you for taking Sky Watch on that walk with you. The comments about taking the time to experience with all your senses is so true, by imprinting in your memory banks the sound of the birds and how the breeze felt on the day it can come back every time you see the photo.
ReplyDeleteIt does look hot! It is beautiful, though.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the whole viewing experience. My job as a photographer often means conveying in one untampered image what you described. That's why your images are so talative if you know what I mean, you photograph a mood, a feeling.
ReplyDeleteThe colours of the grasses and sky are super together. Wonderful contrast!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you stopped by. Enjoyed discovering your blog!
ReplyDeleteDawn
Nice landscape shot...so many shades of yellow in that dry grass...stark beauty...
ReplyDeleteA great summery shot.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
I know what you mean about the smell of dry grass. This feels hot just looking at it.
ReplyDeleteYour photo is tantalizing. It leaves me feeling warm and wishing I could take in those perfumes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about using the five senses when taking a photograph.
ReplyDeletejfm
That luminous sky is amazing! What a remarkable color!
ReplyDeleteWe could use some heat over here now, so please if you could help...;-) Beautiful landscape.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend;-)
Nice contrast of the golden grass with the aqua sky all in a horizontal plane. Very peaceful to the eye! (Except for those spikey plants in the grass that is!)
ReplyDeleteHi Troy...nice to have you back. Agree with you...the nice thing about photography is that is always brings back smells, sights and other memories of the scene...
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Scotty
Well composed picture, love the blue sky, Have a nice SWF.
ReplyDeleteI agree whole heartedly with your presence, time, place, awareness philosophy. If you're there... BE there. Thanks for the timely reminder!
ReplyDeleteTroy: The heat and the lack of rain are certainly shown in your photo.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shot and beautiful sky !! Thanks for sharing..Unseen Rajasthan
ReplyDeleteIt looks hot. Could you send us a little of that heat to Ontario? We seem to be a little short these days. Love the shot, makes me feel warm.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. What a clear blue sky. This is a beautiful scene; however, I can almost sense the heat radiating in the air on a day like this.
ReplyDeleteO so different from the damp grass around here.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to Google barrens, because the photo doesn't look barren. You have aroused my interest in wishing to visit Texas - haven't met a Texan I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteI stopped by your new site (you left a comment about it). Couldn't leave a commnet w/o giving email-so didn't. But, your site looks great. Nice pics -as always.
ReplyDeleteDoes look warm and the colors are lovely in gold and green captured here- Have a great weekend-
