Oh, for Peace and Quiet

Sky Watch Friday

In Richland Hills, Texas, where we live, one of the water towers is less that 100 yards from our house. The good news is that we always have good water pressure in the summer, when everyone is watering the yard. One of the necessary evils is repainting it every 5-10 years. Now is the time. They are in the process of sand-blasting. Noisy and dirty. They start early and go late. It is LOUD! The wind is blowing toward us today and everything is coated with fine sand and paint dust. This photo was taken this morning.

It will look great when finished.
The blue had faded to light blue.

  2. Good thing they only repaint every 5-10 years. I can see the dust flying off it in the photo.

  9. Yap, the good thing about it is the repainting is every 5-10 years. Maybe next time, the vacation can be timed when it needs a fresh coat :)

    Nice shot.

  10. Oh - what a terrible place to be in, this one in five years!! I understand the concept of fine dust, having lived in El Paso TX for a year. And noise? Don't get me started. But at least it gave you a blog entry!!?

  12. Might be noisy, but it's beautiful to look at against such a blue sky, and the tree adds just hte right touch.

  13. Lovely shot - I'm sure the benefits outweigh the disadvantage of the noise and dirt every 5 or 10 years, though.

  23. Nice photo.
Bummer about the noise and dust. Seems like they wouldn't sandblast on a windy day. That dust can't be good for anyone to breath.

  29. I love these water towers. We just don't have them in the UK and they always look alien to me, but fabulous for photography.

  30. Love the angle and the compostition with the trees cutting diagonally across the sky, their varied colors a perfect contrast to the brilliant blue sky, and there in the middle of it all, the source of life!

  32. Do be careful breathing in the paint dust. It has a lot of chemicals init and can be very toxic, not just impeding breathing, but being rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream from the lungs.

Nice undistorted, well composed picture of the quite good looking tower.
