In Richland Hills, Texas, where we live, one of the water towers is less that 100 yards from our house. The good news is that we always have good water pressure in the summer, when everyone is watering the yard. One of the necessary evils is repainting it every 5-10 years. Now is the time. They are in the process of sand-blasting. Noisy and dirty. They start early and go late. It is LOUD! The wind is blowing toward us today and everything is coated with fine sand and paint dust. This photo was taken this morning.
It will look great when finished.

Beautiful shot! Happy SWF!~ Mine is, HERE.
ReplyDeleteGood thing they only repaint every 5-10 years. I can see the dust flying off it in the photo.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Not good about the noise, but hooray for the water pressure. ;-) Happy Sky Watch!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blue and Autumn colors.
ReplyDeleteAren't they using one of those collapsible shrouds? Bummer! But the water pressure angle is nice.
ReplyDeleteVery useful those water towers.
ReplyDeletehmmm.. that i surely a quiet and peaceful place out there. lovely clear sky... check out mine HERE
ReplyDeleteTroy & Martha: What a neat photo of the tower into the sky. It should be nice when they are done and you have your peace restored.
ReplyDeletenice framing. beautiful colors, too!
ReplyDeleteMy Skywatch entry is HERE!
Yap, the good thing about it is the repainting is every 5-10 years. Maybe next time, the vacation can be timed when it needs a fresh coat :)
ReplyDeleteNice shot.
Oh - what a terrible place to be in, this one in five years!! I understand the concept of fine dust, having lived in El Paso TX for a year. And noise? Don't get me started. But at least it gave you a blog entry!!?
ReplyDeleteThe foreground makes the picture....
ReplyDeleteMight be noisy, but it's beautiful to look at against such a blue sky, and the tree adds just hte right touch.
ReplyDeleteLovely shot - I'm sure the benefits outweigh the disadvantage of the noise and dirt every 5 or 10 years, though.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture of the water tower. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCheers!

I love the way water towers look against the sky. I know you will be happy when the painting is done and you have a little peace and quiet.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the capture, Martha. I have a water tower near my office. I think they have such a charm!
ReplyDeletehehehe I just took a shot of the water tower here in my town of Poplar Bluff, Missouri - It DOES make for a great Sky Watch photo!
ReplyDeleteHappy Shooting!!!
Just ask them to repaint your house as well :-)
ReplyDeleteNice photo.
Great photo! The Dutch watertowers are all made of bricks and 10 metres high. There's one not far from where I live. I like yours very much.
ReplyDeleteStay indoors and keep the windows shut .. cant be good to breathe that stuff

What a great blue sky.
ReplyDeleteNice photo.
ReplyDeleteBummer about the noise and dust. Seems like they wouldn't sandblast on a windy day. That dust can't be good for anyone to breath.
Beautiful blue sky! Nice photo.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Sky. That's a heck of a job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot. You are right, very peaceful.
ReplyDeleteOh, I so hope you do a follow-up shot with the same angle and all when they have completed. Would be a neat compare/contrast.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pics.
Beautiful Sky Watch-photo.
ReplyDeleteYou would never know how disruptive it is from your photo. It just seems a beautiful day with an incredibly blue sky!
ReplyDeleteMy Sky Watch Photos are posted Here and Here
Nice catch with the dust, looks like a beautiful morning.
ReplyDeleteBTW took your advice and started experimenting with TV and P settings, this weeks SWF is the result on TV!
I love these water towers. We just don't have them in the UK and they always look alien to me, but fabulous for photography.
ReplyDeleteLove the angle and the compostition with the trees cutting diagonally across the sky, their varied colors a perfect contrast to the brilliant blue sky, and there in the middle of it all, the source of life!
ReplyDeleteInteresting photo of something that you see every day. I had no idea they were painted so often. Neat!
ReplyDeleteLovely blue skies there :)
Happy Sky Watch Friday!

Do be careful breathing in the paint dust. It has a lot of chemicals init and can be very toxic, not just impeding breathing, but being rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream from the lungs.
ReplyDeleteNice undistorted, well composed picture of the quite good looking tower.
Great photo. I love the beautiful blue of the sky.
ReplyDeleteAs water towers go this is a real beauty. Great photo and hope they are fast with the paint job.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's & amazing colors. We have red in sky here tonight.
ReplyDeleteThese are Wonderful! My Wordpress site threw your comment into Spam and I Just now found it...Sorry!! Happy Texas night!
ReplyDeleteWonderful capture! The blue is just so blue!;-)
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful photo for SWF. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe had one in the village we lived in and it wasn't that far from our house...I remember the summer they painted it ....
ReplyDeleteSounds unpleasant to deal with, but the photo is lovely!
ReplyDeleteIn this day and age I can't believe they haven't come up with a self-painting steel or a better/safer/cleaner way to paint such a huge structure.
ReplyDeleteI do love water towers! sand balsting ... not so much :)
ReplyDeleteHappy SKy watch!
beautiful sky. it's a good thing they repaint your towers, ours look rusty and yucky.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting shot against a vibrant blue sky!
ReplyDeleteYour header is just gorgeous....nice SWF!
ReplyDeleteThe plus is now you will have a peaceful 5 years or so before the painting happens again.
ReplyDeleteI used to live right beside one of these and never felt that safe.
ReplyDeleteVery nice photo. You must repost when it's been painted again. :-)
ReplyDeleteSome of our water towers in this area were repainted recently. Sure makes a difference. Nice skywatch.

What a marvelous BLUE sky behind the water tower near your home. I’ve shared at Sacred Ruminations this week.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
Troy and Martha, thanks for your encouragment. Come back and see what I "caught" today!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine that's pretty annoying noise! Good thing it's only every 5-10 years.
ReplyDeleteA very blue blue.
ReplyDeleteLove those blue skies, thin clouds and great angle on the shot of the water tower.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, with that beautiful blue sky. My post has less of sky and more of what is in the foreground here:
